Anytown pulses with the happiness and pain of ordinary life and the power of heartland rock, as music of Bruce Springsteen and other members of his legendary E Street Band underscores the lives of three families entwining over generations. Minneapolis choreographers Danial Shapiro and Joanie Smith tell their saga with detailed sets, props, costumes and text. As they say, "We don't live in empty rooms, so we don't perform on empty stages." Their dance will live in your heart long after the house lights go back up.
“Love, anger, loss, hope, death, regrets....Shapiro and Smith have found a way to celebrate all that we are.” – Karyn D. Collins, Asbury Park Press
“Anytown invades your heart, and some moments almost stop it.” – Deborah Jowitt, Village Voice
“The choreography has the spontaneity and explosive energy of rock 'n' roll dancing, borrowing gestures from popular culture. Yet Shapiro and Smith also work in the tradition of modern expressionism. Here dramatic incidents appear natural and believable, even set within a frame of frozen tableaux.....The dancers give performances of startling intensity.” – Robert Johnson, New Jersey Star-Ledger
