DanceBrazil
DanceBrazil was in residence at Carr Lane Visual and Performing Arts Middle School and McKinley Classical Junior Academy, both in the St. Louis Public School District, and at Herbert Hoover Boys & Girls Club, the week of February 19, 2007, prior to their performances at the Edison Theatre February 23-26, 2007. Students learned the basics of Afro-Brazilian folk and street dances, as well as Capoeira, a dance/martial art form developed by Africans in Brazil in the 16th century. The residency related to social studies by presenting these dance forms in the historical, geographical and cultural context of Brazil. The culminating activity was attendance by the students with their schools at a Young People’s Performance at the Edison Theatre at 11 AM on Friday, February 23, 2007.
