Doug Varone and Dancers Residency
Dance St. Louis brought New York contemporary dance company Doug Varone and Dancers to rural Missouri to present movement workshops to 300 6th grade and high school students in March 2006. For many of the students, this was their first creative dance experience. High school classes explored Doug Varone's "mapping" projects, in which students used their own personal life experiences to map out floor patterns and groupings. In all classes, students worked in small groups to create their own movement compositions and perform them for their classmates. The finale was attendance at a Young People's Performance by Doug Varone and Dancers at the Edison Theatre for the residency students and their classmates.
