We are delighted to offer teachers and students of all ages (K - 12) the opportunity to attend our Dance St. Louis 2011-2012 Young People's Performance by the world-renowned Martha Graham Dance Company on Friday, October 14 at 11 AM at the Touhill Performing Arts Center at University of MO-St. Louis.
The Young People's Performance is an hour-long educational program featuring dazzling, live professional dance performances with a young audience in mind. We provide a Teacher Guide, mailed in advance, packed with information and activities, and aligned with state and national educational standards. Tickets are only $5 per student, with one free chaperone ticket for every ten tickets purchased.
Martha Graham Dance Company will open with a montage of dances connected with media and narration in order to give students background on Martha Graham and her discoveries. The pieces to be performed include her masterpiece Lamentation, and Serenata Morisca−a piece Martha Graham performed as a young dancer that made her a star! The students will be able to see through dance the Graham revolution and how very different her approach was. The program will close with excerpts from the beloved classic Appalachian Spring, the story of a springtime frontier wedding set to Aaron Copeland's transcendent music.
Tickets go on sale Wednesday, August 3 at 9:30 AM. To reserve your seats, call 314.534.6622 or stop by the Dance St. Louis box office. Young People's Performances often sell out, so don't delay!
