With passion, power and spectacle, the 40 dancers, singers, musicians and guest artists of Chicago’s celebrated Ensemble Español Spanish Dance Theater highlight a mosaic of Hispanic cultures from around the world. Ensemble Español brings sophistication to the art, seducing the crowd with romance mixed with unpredictable choreography. The company breaks through geographic barriers to exude and express what dance is really all about.

EESDT’s extraordinary repertoire — spanning 40 years of national and international performances — features more than 125 dances in flamenco, folkloric and classical Spanish styles. Under the artistic leadership of its founder, Dame Libby Komaiko, artistic director, Irma Suarez Ruiz and executive director, Jorge Perez, the Ensemble is internationally recognized as the premier center for Spanish dance, music and culture in America in residence at Northeastern Illinois University Chicago. The company and its educational programs are chartered to share the rich traditions of the dance, music, and literature of Spain and to encourage new artistic creativity within the framework of the Hispanic experience. The Ensemble appears in a broad range of television, opera, chamber ensembles, festivals, conventions and symphonic formats while touring throughout the United States and around the world.
