That's according to Michael Uthoff, artistic & executive director of Dance St. Louis. He is a former professional dancer, and active choreographer. “Dance leaps over boundaries like age, income and nationality," he says, "and creates magic and joy for all.”Watch the short movie below, then read on for more about the Get Your Dance On, STL! campaign.
What better way to spread the word about Dance St. Louis’ 2010-2011 season of the world’s best dance—brought here—than to show all different kinds of people making their own dance moves? It’s time to Get Your Dance On, STL!
Phase I: Auditions
On Saturday, August 14, 150 St. Louisans lined up outside the Centene Center for Arts & Education to sit before our panel of judges. Participants were asked to dance to our music for 30 seconds. Then, 30 participants from all over the St. Louis Metropolitan Area were selected to star in our commercials.
Phase II: Commercial Shoot
Dance St. Louis teamed up with Ryan Bax and his production team at the Touhill Performing Arts Center to bring Maring | Weissman Creative Director Paul Maring's vision to life. The stage was expertly set with lighting and fog to achieve the cool effect you'll see in the commercials. Each dancer went to hair, makeup, and wardrobe to get ready for the closeups. Then, each worked with the directorial team to make it amazing.
Phase III: Post Production
Now the hard work begins. Dance St. Louis Director of Marketing Julie Kruempel is working with editor Ryan Bax to assemble all of the footage into eye-catchingly fun commercials. Hopefully, these commercials will encourage St. Louisans to take a second look at dance and entice everyone to come try and and see just how much they'll love it!
Dance St. Louis thanks Maring | Weissman for their development of the creative concept of the Get Your Dance On, STL! campaign.
